Miznon

Hidden away from the tourist-flooded falafel shops on rue des Rosiers, this casual eatery serves French-influenced Israeli food.

Located in the heart of the Jewish Quarter, Miznon is all about hearty food served up with love. This no-fuss eatery is the Parisian outpost of well-known Israeli chef Eyal Shani’s string of restaurants, which are credited with sharing Israeli street food with the world. Miznon has a laid-back vibe and an animated staff, who can often be heard singing along to Israeli music and chatting amongst themselves and with customers across the counter. The interior is pared back and rustic, with scattered piles of vegetables just waiting to be turned into one of Eyal’s creations: the whole-roasted cauliflower and artichokes drizzled with olive oil are must-orders.

The menu, scribbled in colourful chalk on a large blackboard in the centre of the restaurant, features an assortment of pitas filled with ratatouille, lamb kefta, chicken and beef bourguignon. After ordering at the counter, grab a seat at the bar so you can watch the animated bustle of the open kitchen. If the bar’s full, venture down the corridor to the back room – just make sure to listen for your name to be called when your order is ready.
